Chapter 546 - 546 Assault on the Odium Syndicate (11)
Chapter 546 - 546 Assault on the Odium Syndicate (11)
Before sliding under the legs of the person wearing power armor, Liesel had been using their bulky form to block the line of sight of the other nine combatants to make it harder for them to shot her.Now that she was on the other side of the individual after landing her attack, they all had their weapons aimed at her and opened fire again despite the fact that their attacks were just as likely to hit their comrade as they were her.
It seemed that they were going to bank on the person's power armor protecting them from the friendly fire and were prepared to do some damage to an ally if it meant killing Liesel.
Of course, she had never stopped moving, and with a burst of movement she closed in on the group firing at her.
She used her hardlight buckler to guard against the majority of the blasts, and evasive footwork to avoid the others.
Her approach was not perfect since she took a couple hits, but her personal shield generator blocked those at the cost of some of its capacity.
'I definitely need to keep training. Olivia wouldn't have taken a single shot.' Liesel thought, comparing herself to her mentor.
Still, even while she was analyzing her own performance her hands were still moving with deadly precision.
She had closed the gap between her and the nine enemy troops, and her sickle flashed as she carved through the nearest one.
The man attempted to block the attack at the last moment by positioning his laser rifle to intercept the strike.
Honestly, it was a miracle he had even been able to react to how fast Liesel was moving. Except, it hardly mattered.
Due to the insane sharpness of her weapon and her physically augmented strength that basically put her at the level of a superhuman, she sliced right through the laser rifle and into then right into the guy's chest.
His heart had been cut in half, so he was dead before he even hit the floor.
The other Odium Syndicate combatants tried to back away and continue to fire, but Liesel was just far too fast for them to keep up with.
With blinding flourishes of her weapon, she carved through each of them with ease and left a gory mess in her wake.
It was a bit sickening to see the aftermath of her rampage.
Lasers were a lot cleaner since the wounds they created were a lot smaller and did not bleed as much.
Nevertheless, Liesel could not deny the effectiveness of what she had just done.
At closer range in the confined hallways of a station, her hardlight weaponry and the skills she had been developing were astonishingly deadly.
"Die!"
Liesel turned around as she heard a woman shout from behind her.
The person wearing power armor had managed to turn around to face her despite her wounded leg. And Instead of the large laser rifle she had been using before, a should compartment had opened up to reveal a missile that was ready to launch.
Considering where they were, the resulting explosion of the missile would definitely engulf the woman in power armor as well, likely killing her.
It seemed that she was willing to blow herself up and destroy a part of the station if it meant killing Liesel as well.
Fortunately, her suicidal attempt at revenge did not go any further.
Liesel had disregarded the woman after slipping by her because Casey had told her she would take care of the rest.
Before the power armor could fire its shoulder mounted missile, the entire suit suddenly slumped over and crashed to the ground unmoving.
Sticking out of its back, was conical device that had what looked like claws protruding out of it that had dug into the armor.
Casey suddenly appeared directly behind the fallen power armor, her active camouflage wearing off as she waved at Liesel.
"I was beginning to worry there for a second. Thought I was about to eat a missile to the face."
"But you didn't. I just had to wait for the right opening to hit them with a disruptor. You did an excellent job drawing their attention. Plus, when have I ever let you down." Casey replied.
"When we were still back on my aunt's ship, constantly. Since we left, not once I suppose."
"And that's all that matters. Now, what are we going to do about her." Casey said, her eyes drifting down towards the suit of fallen power armor.
Casey had shut the suit down temporarily, but the person inside was still alive. Albeit trapped inside the unresponsive power armor.
Liesel sighed, knowing what had to be done.
They could not linger here for much longer, and leaving an enemy behind to recover and rejoin the battle later would only cause them problems later.
With a stony expression, Liesel located the thinnest part of the armor around the neck joint and jammed the point of her sickle through it.
There was some resistance, but her weapon quickly slid through and sliced through the woman inside's spine.
It was certainly brutal, but it had to be done.
Liesel had been born into a family of mercenaries, so she was no stranger to death.
The fact that the people they were fighting were part of a criminal organization responsible for distributing a dangerous drug also helped to make it easier.
Destroying this production facility would save countless lives in the future, and anyone onboard was obviously complicit in the spread of Paradise throughout the Dramid Alliance.
Liesel certainly would not brand herself as some hero of justice, but she certainly preferred having the moral high ground. It just made things like this easier to do.
"Let's get going. There's another team headed our way. They're only a few hundred meters away now and closing in fast."
At Casey's prompting, Liesel ran down one of the station's many corridors so that the two of them could get the drop on their next targets.
After around ten minutes of keeping on the move and using hit and run tactics to wear their pursers down and occasionally attacking the groups surrounding Burke and the people with him, Liesel and Casey had managed to do a great deal of damage.
Their adversaries just could not contain them with the forces they had.
The station had been designed to maximize space, which left plenty of corridors to run down and rooms to dash through.
There were very few places with wide open spaces like on a colony so trying to keep up with two people that were way faster and had better detection equipment was quite difficult for defenders of the production faciality.
Burke was also making some headway, having started going on the offensive now that Liesel's actions had weakened the enemy's formation.
Everything seemed to be going well, and Liesel and Casey were on her way to regroup with everyone else when they suddenly heard a loud crashing sound.
The noise was followed by a shaking that almost knocked Liesel off her balance, telling her that whatever had just occurred must have been big.
In a hurry, Liesel took off, racing down the halls to confirm hers and Burke's squads' conditions.
She was under no illusion that what she had just heard had happened away from where they were all supposed to be gathering.
Liesel could only hope that her fellow leader had enacted some explosive strategy for some reason and that everything was fine.
Along the way, she ran into some enemies that were likewise rushing towards the cataclysmic scene, but she easily dispatched them and kept moving.
It did not take long for her to find the source of what had caused the cacophonous noise.
For just a moment, Liesel paused as she looked out in horror at the large area that had been collapsed.
There was a massive hole in the ceiling above where seven levels had been brought down in a roughly eighty-meter square.
Even for a station of this size, it was no small amount of damage, and Liesel was shocked that the Odium Syndicate troops had been the one to do so.
This production facility was one of their most important bases, and causing so much damage to a place they were supposed to be defending was practically counterintuitive.
Yet, Liesel could hardly deny how effective the attack was.
She could see some movement under the rubble, and on the edges some people appeared to have escaped being buried.
They were all people Liesel recognized as either being part of hers or Burke's squad.
Some flashes of light soon caught her eye, and she looked through the cloud of dust to see a man flying around using boosters shooting out of his backpack and boots.
Immediately, Liesel recognized the figure as Burke, as she had seen him employ this fighting style before.
He was the type that preferred to stay out of close combat whenever possible, so he had focused on mobility and firepower to keep distance while fighting at range.
The real question was who he was fighting.
The recent collapse of seven floors had kicked up a lot of dust, and there was smoke billowing out of some fires as well.
This made visibility poor, and even with her enhanced vision, Liesel was having trouble making things out.
"Casey, help those that are caught under the rubble get out. You've got our best detection equipment, so find everyone you can. I'll go and back Burke up." Liesel said, not waiting for a response from her friend and partner as she leapt down and started running across the rubble strewn area to join the battle.
