Chapter 307: Shock
Chapter 307: Shock
Lin Xinghai was a man of action. Without hesitation, he directly ordered Zhang Yue, who was beside him, "Have the artillery squad get ready. In thirty seconds, lay down covering fire on the surrounding zombie hordes. A full saturation strike."
"Uh... you want the artillery squad to act now?" Zhang Yue was taken aback.
’Aren’t we holding up just fine?’ he thought. ’Even though the number of Zombies is still increasing, they’re not posing any real threat to us for now.’
"It’s to boost the morale of the Mercenary Corps," Lin Xinghai explained.
He then began to adjust the formation of the various Mercenary Corps.
He assigned the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps to the very front, the Soaring Dragon Merc to the left flank, and the Holy Light Mercenary Corps to the right flank.
As for the few Second Level Mercenary Corps that originally belonged to the First Brigade, Lin Xinghai assigned them all to the rear of the formation.
The Mercenary Corps he named had all worked with him before, and they carried out Lin Xinghai’s orders without any hesitation.
These Mercenary Corps quickly adjusted their positions, while Lin Xinghai opened another internal communication channel.
He spoke to the Mercenary Corps Leaders of the named groups, "An artillery bombardment is about to begin. Your job is to go all out and kill any High Level Zombies that luckily survive the blast. You must clear out all surrounding Zombies in the shortest time possible."
"Alright!" Although these leaders didn’t quite understand why Lin Xinghai had suddenly given such an order, they had all fought alongside him before. So, without asking any questions, they immediately agreed.
Meanwhile, the Armored Vehicle Lin Xinghai was in began to move, positioning itself near the center of the formation before opening its firing platform.
He would be joining the fight this time to ensure optimal results.
Just as he finished his preparations, the thirty seconds were up.
In that brief moment, the zombie horde had gathered at an incredible speed, their numbers already approaching 6,000.
By now, the Mercenary Corps saw that the more Zombies they killed, the more appeared. Forget the regular members; even some of the squad leaders within the Mercenary Corps were starting to show signs of panic.
This left the various Mercenary Corps Leaders feeling frayed, forced to constantly try and reassure their men.
And at that very moment, the artillery squad’s Armored Vehicles in the middle of the formation had fully deployed into firing platforms.
With a series of WHOOSHES, a dense volley of grenade rounds shot out, hurtling toward the packed zombie hordes.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A dense and relentless roar of explosions erupted. In the blink of an eye, the zombie horde that had been surrounding the convoy was replaced by a sea of fire and explosions.
This sudden turn of events instantly silenced the panicked Third Level Mercenary Corps.
It was only then that they seemed to realize something: the team they were in now was completely different from the brigades they had formed before.
Even if they encountered a zombie tide, they weren’t helpless. In fact, one could say that even against a zombie tide, they could steamroll right through it.
The artillery fire had come suddenly, but it also ended just as quickly. After only twenty or thirty seconds, the bombardment ceased.
Yet, as far as the eye could see down the street, not a single Ordinary Zombie or Intermediate Zombie was left standing.
Only the High Level Zombies, with their quick reactions and considerable Defense Power, could withstand that round of bombardment.
But even if they were lucky enough to make it through, it didn’t mean they would survive.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The very instant the artillery fire stopped, the Mercenary Corps that had already received their orders under Lin Xinghai’s arrangement opened fire at the same time.
The skilled shooters fired with precision, while the less skilled simply sprayed their fire.
Lin Xinghai’s instructions were crystal clear: annihilate the surrounding Zombies in the shortest time possible. Thus, the Mercenary Corps that received the order didn’t care about wasting a little extra ammunition.
Under their fire, the High Level Zombies, already heavily injured and with their Speed reduced, fell in droves.
Of course, while they were killing High Level Zombies at an incredible rate, Lin Xinghai was even faster.
At this point, Lin Xinghai was unleashing his full firepower. With both Tearing Rifles set to full-auto mode, he could kill twenty High Level Zombies in a single second, and 200 in ten seconds.
The battle was over in just over twenty seconds. The more than 600 High Level Zombies that had been left standing were all gunned down by the combined efforts of Lin Xinghai and the several major Mercenary Corps.
Nearly 6,000 Zombies—almost enough to be considered a small-scale zombie tide—were dealt with in less than a minute.
The Mercenaries who had been panicking just moments ago were now filled with nothing but shock.
The scene before them completely shattered their perception of reality.
Before, in the minds of all Mercenaries, a zombie tide was synonymous with a nightmare—something no one ever wanted to encounter.
But now...
At this moment, all the Third Level Mercenary Corps clearly realized just how powerful their temporary team truly was.
More importantly, this wasn’t even close to their limit.
Just now, it was only one artillery squad, three Third Level Mercenary Corps, and a few Second Level Mercenary Corps that had taken action.
And they still had a full thirteen Third Level Mercenary Corps, plus a rapid response force, that hadn’t even joined the battle.
If everyone fought together, they felt that even if a small-scale zombie tide of ten or twenty thousand appeared, they could completely annihilate it in a very short amount of time.
It wasn’t just the Third Level Mercenary Corps that were intimidated; so were the other zombie hordes approaching from a distance.
But the Zombies reacted much faster. Among those hordes, the High Level Zombies retreated first, followed by the Intermediate Zombies. Finally, even the Ordinary Zombies uncomprehendingly turned and ran after them.
"Clean up the battlefield! Quickly! Don’t waste any Time!" At that moment, Lin Xinghai’s voice boomed through a loudspeaker, reaching everyone’s ears.
At this, the Mercenaries, still in a state of shock and daze, seemed to snap back to their senses.
They all grew excited and deftly began to collect the Elemental Crystals. Some even took the opportunity to mow down a group of slower-fleeing zombies.
"So, what do you think of my method? Their morale shot right up," Lin Xinghai said to Zhang Yue with a smile.
"Er... it certainly worked fast, but wasn’t the cost way too high? Even if we collect all these Elemental Crystals, it won’t be enough to cover the deficit!" Zhang Yue said with a wry smile.
You have to understand, a single grenade round costs 1,000 Points. That last bombardment, though it only lasted twenty or thirty seconds, definitely consumed two to three hundred thousand Points.
"Don’t worry, we won’t need to do bombardments like that again. Besides, stick with me and you won’t have to worry about earning Points," Lin Xinghai said, patting the other man’s shoulder, unconcerned.
Five minutes later, the battlefield was clean, and the team set out once again.
